Push PR, at its core, is an influencer marketing agency. It’s our passion and part of what makes it so great is the influencers we get to work with. We want you to see for yourself just how awesome our influencers are, so we’re starting a feature where we’ll interview one lucky person to star on our blog post! First up, let’s meet Fiona Forbes: TV host and producer, Instagram Queen, puppy mom and friend to our founder, Alex. Read on to learn about her job, top tips for Instagram and maybe even a dare or two she completed.

Tell me about your job. What do you love most about it?

“First of all, I should probably give a little explanation of my job and what I do as that is the most common question I get from people! I’ve been a TV Host and Producer for (gasp) more than twenty years! I was a co-host of a few incarnations of an entertainment talk show here in Vancouver for over 17 years – which was the best job in the world! That came to an end a few years back when Shaw TV sadly shut down and I’ve been working as a freelance TV Host and Producer ever since. As the work I do in the television world is essentially creating content, that naturally morphed into the digital world along the way. So these days, I’m a content creator for traditional TV and online with a little bit of a social media side hustle and I love every minute of it!

What I love most about what I do is telling stories – they say the Irish have the gift of the gab, right? Well that’s me! I love that I get to meet interesting people, go on a few crazy adventures and tell the tale along the way. It really doesn’t matter what platform it’s on – whether that be old school television or on social channels, it really is a blast and I feel very lucky I found my passion in this world!”

How did you get into your field of work?

“Short answer: on a dare! I was a student at UBC planning on a career in law when my Dad dared me to audition to host a TV show as a way to overcome my fear of public speaking. It worked and a week later I was hosting a one-hour live interview program and I haven’t looked back since!”

If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

“Oh so many places! If I had to choose one, it would be to relax on the beautiful beaches of the Amalfi Coast, Italy. I spent many summers there visiting my aunt and uncle as a child. Although I’m not Italian, my Aunt married one and lucky us, Amalfi is where he called home. The beaches, the food, the people – it really is paradise to me!”

What’s the number one way you engage with your followers? Explain.

“Engaging and creating a connection with your audience is key. I have met so many great people through my followers, comments and DMs! It’s such a great way to network, brainstorm and find like-minded people.”

What are some tips for those looking to become an influencer?

Influencer is such a funny word these days – people assume it’s not a real job. I approach anything I post on social channels with the same passion as I have for creating content for TV, film or print. Traditional media survives on advertising and sponsored content – that’s basically what I do as an influencer, but I’m my own network. My friends tease me and call it the Forbes News Network (a.k.a. FNN).

For those who want to enter the world of being an influencer,  it’s the same advice I give people who want to get into television…just be yourself. It’s the toughest thing to do for some, but once you figure it out and let the walls down, the authenticity shines through and that’s what followers are after these days. I think it’s important to mention to not compare yourself to others on social media as it causes some people to enter a very unhealthy headspace. It’s so hard in the world we live in today with the perfect life almost being a competitive sport for some, but the only person you should be is you! And don’t sweat it when it comes to numbers or algorithms – just post what you love, what you’re proud of, engage with your audience and most importantly – HAVE FUN!”

Tell me a fun fact about yourself.

“I once ran the Honolulu Marathon on a dare. The full 26.2 miles in punishing Hawaiian heat. My goal was to finish and not die. Done and done!

P.S. Never do that.”
